RBCC Coxswain Info and Update -- Action required

Items that are specific to this spring's coxswains.
  • All of you should be aware that coxswains are requested to attend the Temple Coxswain's Clinic on February 4 rather than attend the Main Line Slide.  Please see  http://boathouserow.org/rega12/templecoxclinic.html for information and instructions on how to register. Coach Alec will also attend this clinic.
  • RBCC has purchased survival suits for the use of the coxswains when temperatures are extremely low. These suits provide floatation as well as warmth and will provide protection for the coxswain should they end up in the water in cold conditions.  These suits will remain the property of RBCC and the club is requesting a one time fee of $100 from coxswains to cover cleaning and repair of the suits from year to year.
  • Financial aid is available from the club if these expenses will pose a hardship for any club member.

RBCC Update and Upcoming Events -- Make your pledge for the Main Line Slide Challenge

  • Anthony's Coal Fired Pizza Night  Monday January 23
    • Anthony's Pizza has once again agreed to host a fundraiser for RBCC.  Anthony's will donate 20% of food sales (eat-in or take-out) to RBCC. Invite your friends and family and take the night off from the kitchen. Join us for food and socializing.  The claim coupon is posted at www.rowradnor.org.
  • Main Line Slide registration closes January 28
    • All oarsmen are encouraged to participate in this event, see how well you are doing compared to competitors from other programs. Registration forms and waivers can be found at  http://www.villanovarowing.com/mls/.
  • Main Line Slide Challenge Saturday February 4
    • Thanks to a gentle prod from Daniel Carbery, several of the "older" contingent (parents that is...) will also compete in the Main Line Slide.  To make this a bit more interesting there will be a challenge to the oarsmen...  the challenge is that for each oarsmen that pulls a PR (personal record) at the MLS we will make a donation to RBCC. Daniel Carbery and Paul Aftring will kick this off with a minimum $1 for every second improvement in the PR. The improvements in PR will be documented by the coaches to avoid any collusion or other mishandling of the results...
    • Furthermore we will state our own PR (or target time) and agree to donate a similar amount for any personal improvement.  All parents, friends and relatives are free to participate, recommended donation from a minimum of $1.00 per second of improvement to whatever you think it is worth.. (feel free to set a cap on this to limit your risk!).
    • The coaches are also invited to participate. Coach Ken has offered a reverse incentive that he will pledge $1 per second that he pulls slower than his personal PR (from his competitive days). Anyone can also pledge to participate in the reverse incentive for our ex competitor coaches.
    • All parents are encouraged to consider registering for the MLS. State a PR and you can help us fundraise as well get an understanding of just how it feels to workout at a sprint pace for 2K.
    • A pledge form will be sent separately which can be filled out online.
  • Crash-B World Indoor Rowing Championships Boston Sunday February 19
    • For those traveling to Boston for this event, please drop a note to paul@rowradnor.org if you will be in Boston Saturday evening and would like to join us for a pasta dinner in the Boston's North End.  Let me know as well how many will attend the dinner.
